Moment Poem

In the oily blackness of night
                On 19 Road
I am invisible; running on not-there legs.
I materialize periodically; blue and red.
Sounds fill the air, but the night is silent,
Heart beating a rhythm of passion;
                Youth.
The roadmap of memories unfolds,
                Wrinkled, half-torn, and stained;
The geography of my being.
Streets extend  like veins,
Shot through by stories;
Dripping lessons and experiences
                 from open wounds.
They float to my mind as delicately
                As dandelion seeds
And grow.
A longing tug in my chest
                Gives way to melancholic happiness
And remembrance.
A night like this, moonless.
                Thick, black, syrupy dark
Envelopes surreptitious action.
Whirring wheels stir the night;
                A familiar play,
But one different tonight.
Heat in the cold silence
                Blossoms;
An exploding star.
Peacocks cry out in the black vastness,
                Their mournful wails shatter the stillness;
Grieving innocence lost.

  3. Great use of metaphor. The rhythm was a little hard to follow because of all the punctuation, but I thought it was still very impactful.
